I Was a Snake

Recently, I read an article in The New Yorker that described the hallucinogenic experience of a man who emerged from a coma. While in his coma, he said “I was a snake”.
Many myths contain the thoughts of people transforming into other animals. In her book “Lady of the Beasts”, Buffie Johnson writes: “The serpent serves as metaphor for the impenetrable manner in which our lives change, twist, and renew themselves.”
The fashion designer, Elsa Schiaparelli was well known for her surreal use of animals in her fashions. She collaborated with Salvador Dali, the surrealist artist.
These thoughts are present in people’s tattoos and for this year’s couture collection, Daniel Roseberry, the creative director of Schiaparelli, has designed glasses that represent the hybridization of human and snake eyes.
