True City Wedding

Where they live, where she works, where they go to church, where they hang out and the warmth and humor of their families and friends. Elegant and simple decorations and champagne to take home. Partying and dancing and people they love. The ingredients of an amazing wedding. This was Ok and Tim’s day.

The ceremony was held at The Church of St. Vincent Ferrer and the reception was held at The Bryant Park Grill. Lydia Taplett of the Wedding Library coordinated all events. The floral arrangements were done by Diana Gould, Ltd. and the cake was created by Amy of the Sugar Flower Shop. Hank Lane played amazing dancing music. Butterfly Studio did hair and makeup for all the ladies.

Awesome Company: The Polaroid Collection

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon at Sotheby’s in Manhattan looking at the photographs from the Polaroid Collection. This collection contains works by past and contemporary artists. Works by Ansel Adams, Chuck Close, William Wegman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Peter Beard, Lorna Simpson and other wonderful artists line the walls of five floors.

My work is also a part of the Polaroid Collection. Although I feel saddened to see this collection go to auction, I am proud to be a part of this esteemed group. Using Polaroid film was an important creative tool for my work. I could see the progress of a session and work on ideas at the time I was photographing. Then I could take the negatives and contact print in palladium or enlarge them in silver gelatin printing.

Singer Songwriter Musician

Recently I did the portraits for a singer and songwriter who is working on a cd and book about codependency. She hopes that her own struggles will guide others through their journeys. Her name is Juliet Wright. Juliet gave me some of her lyrics that she is working on. Here are a few from a song titled “Let The Child Speak”:

Let the child stand
Do not be afraid

This is for what she’s made.

Pretending she can fly

These are some of Juliet’s favorite portraits where she is perched on a rock by a waterfall. We did these in the mountains in Vermont.

New Baby

In late March I did a maternity session for a wonderful couple. We went to the lake in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, one of their favorite haunts. A month and a half later, we repeated our session with their new baby. Here is a sampling of our photos.

Choosing Prints For Framing

When I work with my clients for prints that they will frame, I show them different types of prints. There is a variation of effect and interpretation. Online the differences might not seem so apparent. The first photograph is printed on a warmer toned paper, the second on a neutral black & white paper, and the third is printed to be lighter to reflect the sunny day.

New Palladiums

Platinum and palladium printing is one of my favorite mediums. These metals are more precious than gold. I take solutions containing one or both and paint them on cotton or gampi papers. Placing the negatives on the dried surfaces, I expose them to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. A totally “green” way of printing and one of the most archival.

Right after rain, the sky clears in a way that the blue is brilliant. The day was crisp but this three month old had her first glimpse of the spring sun and the awakening buds.

Spring Streams

I am always fascinated by streams as they cascade down the mountains in the Northeast. No more so than when they roar with wave upon wave of foaming water. This is an announcement that winter is over. Spring has started.
