Last Sunday I attended the Blessing Way party for my friend Brooke. We started the morning doing maternity portraits then drove to her friend Suzy’s home. Wonderful women friends of Brooke awaited her arrival. To honor Brooke, poetry was read and interpreted by a dancer. Beads were given to her for her birthing necklace. We tied a red string around each other’s wrists that will not be broken until we hear that the baby is born. The party finished when everyone had a chance to paint Brooke’s belly with henna decorations that conveyed our love and good wishes.
